New Warehouse to be built in Spring Grove

Spring Grove, PA, June 22, 1999—P. H. Glatfelter Company announced today that Smith Transport, Inc. of Roaring Spring, PA, will build a warehouse adjacent to the Spring Grove mill’s wood handling facility on Route 116 in North Codorus Township.

Smith Transport will construct, own and operate the new warehouse and Glatfelter will lease space to store finished paper and raw materials. The new 252,000 square-foot warehouse, which will be located on 51 acres just north of the mill’s Roundwood Processing Facility, will allow Glatfelter to centralize shipping operations to improve efficiency and service to customers, while reducing costs and truck traffic. Glatfelter currently warehouses paper and raw materials at five different facilities in the York County area.

The new warehousing facility is expected to reduce truck traffic in Spring Grove Borough by approximately 10% on a daily basis as well as improve the mill’s distribution operations.

Pending approval from the North Codorus Township, Glatfelter expects Smith Transport will break ground for the project sometime in July.

Headquartered in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, P. H. Glatfelter Company is a producer of engineered and specialized printing papers. In addition to its Spring Grove, Pennsylvania facility, the Company’s U. S. operations include facilities in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, and Neenah, Wisconsin.
