Mr. Glatfelter, 48, was elected President and Chief Executive Officer in 1998. As newly elected Chairman, he succeeds Thomas C. Norris, who retires May 1.

Mr. Glatfelter, who joined the Company in 1977, has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1992. He is the sixth individual to lead the Company since it was founded in 1864.

Mr. Norris retires with 40 years of service to the Company. He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer in 1980 and Chairman, President and CEO in 1988.
