Glatfelter Tree Farm Family Program

The Glatfelter Tree Farm Family Program is a community of landowners linked by a desire to manage their woodlands effectively. The professional forestry staff of The Glatfelter Pulp Wood Company provides the technical assistance necessary to meet each tree farmer's specific needs.

The Tree Farm Family managed woodlands provide these multiple-use benefits:

  • Income from timber harvests
  • Watershed protection
  • Improved wildlife habitat
  • Enhanced recreational opportunities

By properly managing their forest land, Tree Farm Family members are using and protecting a valuable resource which will benefit future generations.

From the preparation of the management plan to the post-harvest seeding of roads and landings, Company foresters oversee the operation in an effort to purchase the pulpwood. We currently have 128 members with 18,000 acres enrolled in the program.

To qualify for the program, you must have 30 acres of woodland with merchantable timber; a commitment to implement management recommendations; and a willingness to harvest timber and become an active manager in your renewable resource. For more information about The Glatfelter Tree Farm Program, please contact one of our district offices (see below).

Matching Seedling Program

In addition to planting pine seedlings on Company lands, the Company provides tree seedlings to private landowners in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. As a means of encouraging tree planting, the Company will share in the cost of the seedlings with the land owner. Over the past 51 years, tree planting on Company-owned land and on private lands as a result of the seeding matching program has resulted in the establishment of nearly 155,000 acres of forest.

Technical Assistance

To any landowner or logger who requests it, we will provide technical advice and assistance to assure that the lands being harvested to supply our mill are sustained for the future. The importance of these private lands to our future wood supply needs cannot be overstated. Good stewardship now is absolutely necessary if forests are to provide benefits and products in the future.
